New England Friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina is excited to announce that we will be doing our own Walk for Ilijas on Saturday, May 13th from 11AM-1PM. To honor the work of Bosnian and Herzegovinian (BiH) youth and adult programming, we would like to capture the spirit of traditional walks by raising funds to support the incredible work of organizations making pivotal changes for BiH families. So please join us Mother’s Day weekend for a day of community, perseverance, and light-activity, and feel free to read below for more information

100% of all donations from the registration will be made directly to Udruzenje Budi Mi Drug through our “Wheels for Friends, Ilijas” Fundraiser. Currently, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is estimated that 10% of the BiH population suffers from some form of physical, sensory, developmental, or mental disability. The people with disabilities population are most often exposed to multiple marginalization and discrimination, and its members are excluded on several grounds – primarily due to disability, then gender, age, ethnicity, and others. The nonprofit Udruzenje Budi Mi Drug (“Be My Friend” Organization) is a leader in developmental disability advocacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, opening one of the country's first independent living facilities in July of 2023. New England Friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NEFBIH) is partnering with Udruzenje Budi Mi Drug to support their initiative to buy a larger bus that will enhance their day-to-day operations and alleviate some of their financial burdens. By donating to this GoFundMe, you are directly supporting NEFBiH’s year-long fundraiser to raise $30,000 to buy an 18-person bus for Udruzenje Budi Mi Drug.
In addition to financially supporting this cause, we would also like this walk to serve as an opportunity to bring together our local community in a fun, outdoor setting. Organizing our annual walk is exceptionally meaningful for our team, as we can further our commitment to helping people in need while also honoring all of the individuals around the world that have survived, or are currently experiencing human rights abuses.
We would be honored if you would join us on Mother's Day Weekend to enjoy the beautiful scenery in Boston and/or make a contribution to help us achieve our fundraising goal this year
