New England Friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina partnered up with AIC to present “Celebrate Heritage: A Traditional Bosnian Iftar” on August 4, 2012 at the AIC Boston Center on Newbury Street. This event was a Ramadan reprisal of this spring’s hit Bosnian Intercultural Mixer. Guests had an opportunity to break fast with traditional Bosnian cuisine, as they came together in celebration of Boston’s vibrant Bosnian community. There were three components of this evening’s program. Two recitals- mawlid by Ms. Arifa Alic, followed by a recital by two of NEFBiH’s younger members: Medina and Anela. At the end, Medina positively shocked everyone with her wonderful vocal skills, singing a famous Bosnian song called “O’Zefire”. The members of the chorus who accompanied her were: Ms. Dervisa Veletovac, Ms. Arifa Alic, and Anela Demir. The evening’s MCs were: Mrs. Zijada Malicbegovic and Edina Skaljic. It was NEFBiH and AIC’s honor to welcome special guests: Mr. Murat Lutem, Turkish Consul General in Boston, and Mr. Julian T. Tynes-Chairman of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD). Over 100 people attended this event, giving NEFB&H an excellent opportunity to showcase the Bosnian culture, traditions, and most of all: the inclusive and supportive community spirit!
