New England Friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina is pleased to announce that a total of $3,810 was raised during our latest fundraiser via the GoFundMe platform. We are overwhelmed by the generous support and would like to thank everyone that made a contribution either monetarily or by delivering dry food donations.
On May 15, 2022, NEFBiH hosted a walk at Christian Herter Park in Boston as part of our fundraiser benefiting organizations both local and abroad, including the “Prva Baby Javna Kuhinja” (Infant Soup Kitchen) and Bosnian Baby Shop (serving Bratunac and Srebrenica in Bosnia & Herzegovina), The Greater Boston Food Bank, and the Roxbury & Dorchester ABCD. More than 50+ volunteers young and old participated.
At the beginning of the day, participants, members, and friends took a moment to acknowledge and commemorate ‘White Armband Day’ in honor of the Prijedor genocide victims. The white armbands are worn in remembrance of the innocent lives lost to ethnic cleansing, which began in May 1992 after extremist authorities in Prijedor – Northern Bosnia-Herzegovina – issued a decree ordering all non-Serbs to mark their houses with white flags and to wear white armbands when leaving their homes. Every year the symbolic “White Armband Day” takes place on the 31st of May. These photographs show our participants proudly wearing their white armbands.
