New England Friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s very own children’s folklore dance group “Ljiljani” was officially formed in October of 2016 by longtime member Anela Demir. Since then, Dzeneta Velic has joined Anela as co-coordinator of the program. The goal of the folklore dance program is to pass on the tradition of Bosnian Folklor to the younger generation of Bosnian Americans, for whom it is increasingly difficult to maintain a connection to their heritage, especially those having been born in the USA. Along with preserving this part of the Bosnian heritage and culture, the folklore dance program fosters the growth of new friendships between Bosnian American youth in Boston.
