To remember. To see. To witness.
Today, May 31st, NEFBiH will once again be commemorating White Armband Day in honor of Prijedor genocide victims through our annual Online Photo Campaign.
The first image we would like to share as part of our campaign is that of Silvana Mirvic, former Yugoslavian and Bosnian-Herzegovinian basketball player.
Silvana is wearing a white armband to signify the white armbands non-Serbian residents of Prijedor were commanded to wear by armed Serbian forces in May of 1992 whenever leaving their houses. This armband decree marked the beginning of concentration camps, mass rapes, and murders, which resulted in genocide and ethnic cleansing against more than 95% of Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks) and Bosnian Croats from Prijedor and surrounding areas.
Thank you Silvana for bearing witness and honoring the victims of the Prijedor genocide.
To join our campaign, please send us your own photo featuring a white armband and don’t forget to help us spread the word by inviting your friends and family members to participate!
